The concept behind the video was to have the female seem ‘trapped’ and lost in her own ‘ideal, twisted’ fantasy, one where she would be able to hide and possess the band, and ultimately perform some sort of ritual on them to ensure they remained with her forever. Sadly it’s not really possible for us to show someone actually performing a ritual on them, restrictions put in place by YouTube as well as TV stations mean that we had to compromise many of the ideas that we can explore lyrically. We are all for breaking boundaries and going against conventions (“Go to hell for heaven’s sake”, “crooked young” and “hospital for souls” are just a few examples of how we have done this on “There is a hell” alone), but we feared that doing that may take it a little too far. As YouTube would also be our main way of reaching our fans and to ‘advertise’ the song, we had to compromise our views a little bit more than we originally wanted too.

We created the girl to seem distressed and insane, someone who was mentally unstable and in her own little fantasy world. She was meant to be seen as a crazy fan who had taken things too far. But apparently according to a source on twitter, her intentions were “unclear” and “unbelievable”. The film “Carrie” influenced us a lot on how we wanted to perceive her as we wanted them to feel that she had been humiliated in some way to do with the band and this was her pay back, without the drastic ending.

The reasoning for only having two of the band in the video was to enable the video to look more intense, as the small female would not have been able to capture all 5 members of the band, and we wanted to keep some sense of realism in there. We kept the drummer in as a part of a scheme that drummers are normally ignored (or so some people like to think), and the girl was trying to make the drummer known as much as the vocalist. However, she was keeping the vocalist hostage as he is the front man of the band, meaning that he deserved to be punished more than the others, and she wanted him to suffer.

The whole theme of the video is to be dark and mysterious, there was definitely supposed to be some elements of confusion for the audience about how the girl managed to get the band members down there, but it was also supposed to show the general characteristics of our music genre. We dressed the girl in black to show that she has this dark side, but yet her blood red hair could connote that, but also innocence, and child – like features, such as in Little Red Riding Hood.
